KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 1.1 million Afghan refugees were repatriated from Iran and Pakistan in 2021, the International Organization of Migration (IOM) said on Monday.
A total 1,146,750 Afghans without documents have returned to the country — 19,000 from Pakistan and the remaining from Iran.
According to IOM around 670,000 people have been displaced internally by war and insecurity inside Afghanistan.
Earlier according UNHCR report, there was a surge in migration from Afghanistan from the start of 2021 when around 500,000 people migrated to Iran.
IOM also provided financial support to 690,000 displaced persons and those repatriated from Iran and Pakistan.
It demanded over $107 million fund to support migrants and internally displaced persons and 19 million had been provided so far.
