SHARAN (Pajhwok): The Governor of Southeastern Paktika Province Abdullah Mukhtar on Tuesday said 500,000 acres of land were retaken from grabbers in the past five months.
Addressing a gathering on introducing a new mayor, he said millions of acres of land in the districts and provincial capital were grabbed during the past regime.
He said after the take of new government hundreds of acres of grabbed land were retaken in the past five months.
He said the provincial government was trying to retake grabbed lands and asked mayor and agriculture department to pay attention to the increase of revenue as well.
New Paktika Mayor Nasir Helal said efforts to retake grabbed lands will be accelerated.
He said no one will be allowed to grabbed state land and consider it their personal property.
He said efforts to increase revenue had been stepped up as well and in the future people will witness a clean city.
Asadullah, the resident of Sharan, said: “Many lands in Paktika districts and Sharan had been distributed among tribes, some lands are converted to agriculture land and some are sold.”
Paktika is one of the provinces where lands are largely usurped.
