KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian protestors have attacked trucks of Afghan drivers in southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan province, AFP reports.
The demonstration was staged over water rights of Helmand River that flows from Afghanistan’s southern province into the neighbouring country.
AFP quoted Iranian state media as saying the protesters from Sistan-Baluchestan, bordering Afghanistan, demonstrate at a crossing.
In violation of a ban on gatherings at the crossing, the protesters carried placards and called for talks on water rights with Afghan authorities.
Iranian security forces dispersed the demonstrators when they attacked several trucks belonging to the Afghans. The vehicles had been parked at the border crossing.
A similar demonstration was also staged in front of Afghanistan’s consulate in Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchestan province.
