PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghanistan and Pakistan have agreed to allow the free movement of trucks carrying trade cargoes between the two countries.

The free movement of cargo trucks would be allowed from March 21 on Temporary Admission Documents (TAD), the prime minister’s advisor on commerce said.

Abdul Razak Dawood wrote on his official twitters account on Tuesday: “We have finally done it! Historical development on regional connectivity front!.”

Dawood said Afghan transporters could obtain TAD from the Pakistan embassy in Kabul and consulate in southern Kandahar province.

By the same token, he said, transporters from Pakistan could receive TAD from Afghan consulates in Peshawar and Quetta.

He hailed the agreement as a historic development. He hoped: “It will go a long way in enhancing our connectivity and trade relations with Afghanistan, Central Asia and beyond.”

He called geographical diversification and enhancing regional trade and connectivity major pillars of the government’s Strategic Trade Policy Framework.

Dawood added” “We have put in place Look-Africa and Silk Reconnect” policy initiatives for Africa and Central Asian Republics respectively.”

During July-February 2022, Pakistan’s exports to Central Asia rose by 135 percent from $72.5 million to $172.5 million in the same period of last year.
