TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A number of residents of Khwajaghar district of northern Takhar province claim that three children and four women have died in recent days on their way to hospital due to lack of standard roads.

Residents of Khwajaghar district, in a meeting with the provincial border and tribal affairs director, complained about lack of transport routes, saying that in the last few days, three women and four children lost their lives due to lack of standard routes.

Takhar border and tribal affairs director who visited Khwajaghar district to assess problems of people, said that he listened to the problems of the people there and would share them with officials of the central government for solution.

Ajab Gul, a resident of the district, said he was a witness to three children and four women dying in recent days due to a lack of proper transportation routes in the area.

“It takes eight hours of walking to reach the healthcare center from our village, in the last few days, three pregnant women lost their lives due to the long distance to the health center and lack of transportation facilities and health services, I am also a witness to four children losing their lives on the way to the health center,” he said.

He asked government officials to resolve their problems so no more people die due to lack of transportation facilities.

Mohammad Gul, another resident of the district, said that in the past six years, huge sums of money flowed into Afghanistan for reconstruction but their transportation routes remained unpaved due to government’s inattention.
