TIRINKOT / MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Five people were killed and a sixth injured in separate clashes over land dispute in Uruzgan and Laghman provinces, officials said on Saturday.
The first incident took place in KhasUruzgan district of Uruzgan province in which two people were killed.
QariMahmood Mudassir, Uruzgan governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two residents of SiahBaghal area of KhasUruzgan engaged in an armed dispute over land and women.
He said that Mohabbat and Gulistan, uncle and nephew, had been shot dead by a man named Habib.
He said that the killer fled from the area but his brother was arrested by security forces.
Initial investigation shows the dispute between the two families was over land and women, but security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident and a manhunt to arrest the killer.
Residents of Khas Uruzgan district expressed concern over the incident, saying there have been several killings since last week that should be prevented.
Elsewhere, a dispute broke out between two families in Dolabad village of Mehtarlam, the capital of Laghman province.
Abu Mohammad, Laghman police spokesman, said that the dispute happened between two families over land and both sides fired at each other.
He said three members of a family were killed from one side while one person was wounded from the other side of the dispute.
He added that security forces arrived at the scene on time and arrested three suspects and seized a Kalashnikov and a rifle.
