KABUL (Pajhwok): The first group of 212 of the 2,400 Afghan refugees residing in Albania since last summer has departed on a flight to the US.
Media outlets quoted Albanian officials as saying that about 2,400 Afghan refugees had fled their country after the fall of the previous government.
A farewell ceremony, organised for the refugees at the Tirana International Airport, was attended by Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Olta Xhacka and US Ambassador Yuri Kim, among others.
Albania granted them temporary protection status while they waited to obtain US visas that would make their way to that country possible.
