KABUL (Pajhwok): Humanitarian supplies, provided by China’s South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund in cooperation with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), have been handed over to Afghanistan.
Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency that Beijing had been concerned about the Afghan people suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic and drought.
The South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund approved last year a request from the UN refugee agency for giving the vulnerable groups in Afghanistan emergency shelter supplies, education support and cash help, the ambassador recalled.
With efforts from the UNHCR, all supplies had been purchased and were currently being distributed in Kabul, Kandahar, Baghlan and Nangarhar, Wang said.
Yumiko Takashima, UNHCR’s acting representative in Afghanistan, welcomed the fund support, hoping that the timely aid would benefit more than 90,000 displaced Afghans and schoolchildren.
