KABUL (Pajhwok): China is all poised to host the third meeting of foreign ministers of the countries neighbouring Afghanistan.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will chair the two-day meeting, which begins in Tunxi on March 30 (tomorrow), Xinhua news agency reported.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said foreign ministers from Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will attend the the talks.
Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi will be invited to attend the dialogue involving the participants. The foreign ministers of Indonesia and Qatar will attend as guests.
China is optimistic of building further consensus among Afghanistan’s neighbours on the Afghan issue by hosting the meeting.
Wang was quoted as saying: “We hope that by hosting the ‘Afghanistan’s neighbors + Afghanistan’ foreign ministers’ dialogue, we can better understand the difficulties of the Afghan people, convey the concerns of Afghanistan’s neighbours … to build an open and inclusive political architecture, pursue moderate and prudent domestic and foreign policies, and effectively combat terrorism.”
At the same time, Wang hoped, the global fraternity would deliver greater support to Afghanistan. “We call on the US to take the primary responsibility for Afghanistan’s economic reconstruction.”
