KABUL (Pajhwok): China on Thursday urged Afghanistan’s neighbors to help the people of the war-torn country navigate their way to a bright future.
President Xi Jinping issued the call in a written message to the third meeting of foreign ministers from countries neighboring Afghanistan in Tunxi.
Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying that Afghanistan was in urgent need of development. He believed the country stood at a critical point in the transition from chaos to order.
He added: “Afghanistan is a common neighbour and partner of all participating countries. We are a community with a shared future linked by the same mountains and rivers that would rise and fall together.”
A peaceful, stable, developing and prosperous Afghanistan — aspiration for all Afghan people — was also in the interest of regional countries and the world at large, he remarked.
Xi said: “China always respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. We are committed to supporting its pursuit of peace, stability and development.”
Afghanistan’s neighbours should do all they could to build consensus and coordinate efforts to support the Afghans in building a brighter future.
