PARON (Pajhwok): The construction of a clean drinking water supply network has started in the Nurgram district of eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Sunday.
Maulvi Ihsanullah Mowahid, director of rural rehabilitation and development, told Pajhwok Afghan News the water plant would cost two million afghanis, provided by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
He added 10 percent of the cost was being paid by the people for the construction of the water plant in the Bargosh locality of the district.
In addition to a nearby mosque, a seminary and a school, about 165 families would benefit from the water distribution network, he said.
Amirullah, head of the Bargosh Council, expressed happiness over the construction of the water plant.
He said the people of the area had been deprived of access to potable water and contracted various waterborne diseases.
With the construction of the water plant, he hoped, problems of the people would be addressed.
