Woman commits suicide in Takhar’s Rustaq district

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A 32-year-old woman has committed suicide in the Rustaq district of northern Takhar province, an official said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the Dashta-i-Safli locality of the district on Monday.

Police chief Mobin Safi told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The 32-year-old woman named Azimat hanged herself and ended her life in Rustaq district.”

He said the woman was reportedly engaged to a man without her consent after she was divorced by her first husband.

He added security forces had interrogated an eyewitness to her engagement in an effort to ascertain the reason behind the incident.

Safi said the investigation found that the woman had been engaged with her consent. The motive behind her suicide was yet to be ascertained, he concluded.
