KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The Public Health Department of southern Kandahar province says measles is on the rise as the weather is getting warm in southern Kandahar province.
Mohammad Sediq, director of children’s section at the Mirwais Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News many children with measles had been brought to the facility this month.
In May, the official said, 500 children were infected by measles. At least nine of them lost their lives, he added.
In April, about 385 measles patients had been brought to the hospital, with 183 getting admitted and 10 losing their lives, he recalled.
Sediq explained the children who had not been vaccinated were affected the most. He called on parents to vaccinate their children for measles and polio.
