Gen. Musharraf struggling for life in Dubai hospital

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s former president Gen. Pervez Musharraf is struggling for life in a Dubai hospital, his family says.

The ex-dictator has been hospitalised for the last three weeks, his family said in a statement, scotching speculation about the then army chief’s death.

“He is not on the ventilator. Has been hospitalised for the last three weeks due to a complication of his ailment (amyloidosis),” said the statement on Musharraf’s official Twitter account.

“(He is) going through a difficult stage where recovery is not possible and organs are malfunctioning. Pray for ease in his daily living.”

Around midday on Friday, false news of Musharraf’s death circulated on social media in Pakistani and Indian.

Speaking to Dawn, All Pakistan Muslim League (Musharraf’s party) spokesman Amaan Khan Tareen also rejected reports of the ex-general’s demise.

On March 30, 2014, Musharraf was indicted for suspending the constitution on November 3, 2007.

A special court handed the former army chief, who left Pakistan in early 2016, death sentence in the high treason case in December 2019.
