KABUL (Pajhwok): Journalist Ikram Ismati claims he has been beaten by “security forces”, but police say no such incident has happened. They promised arresting the perpetrators.
Ismati alleged he was stopped at a checkpoint in limits of the 5th police district of Kabul and taken to Qargha area, where he was thrashed by the security personnel.
The journalist said he later contacted the police headquarters and shared the incident with it. The police promised an investigation into the incident.
The victim, working for Kabul News, said he was dismissed two days ago.
Police spokesman Khalid Zadran tweeted the video of the journalist (Ikram Ismati) circulated on social media and it was said he was beaten for shaving off his beard and wearing trousers.
“After contact from the journalist, the police headquarters tasked a delegation with probing the incident. The investigation found no such incident involving security or intelligence personnel has happened,” he explained.
Zadran said the police station in the area had been directed to find the individuals involved in the incident involving Ismati and bring them to justice.
