BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has inaugurated a rehabilitation program in central Bamyan province for people with disabilities in the presence of local authorities and the media.
SCA Director Khalid Rahman told Pajhwok Afghan News the committee has been working in Afghanistan for forty years for social welfare and equitable access to social services.
He added that the committee’s activities continued in 17 provinces in the country which are mainly focused on educational school dropout, rural development, improving the health facilities and rehabilitation of the disabled at various social levels.
Muhammad Ghani Amin, in charge of disability affairs, said two districts of Bamyan --- Yakalang, and 2 in Bamyan province, were covered and that more than 500 disabled people would be covered by this program by creating 100 educational classes.
He added that their support program focused more on the economic rehabilitation of people with disabilities through providing loans, improving education, and integrating of people with disabilities into society through the literacy programme.
Economic Department Director Muhammad Haroon Shakir promised to corporate with this committee and facilitate the implementation more such programs.
