Baghan teachers, edu officials to give 1-day salary to quake victims

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Officials of the education department of northern Baghlan province during a special meeting Saturday decided to give one-day salary to earthquake-affected families in Paktika and Khost provinces.

Maulvi Mohammad Noor Azizi, director of education in Baghlan, told Pajhwok Afghan News the special meeting decided to donate one-day salary of all employees to help earthquake-affected people in Paktia, Khost and Paktika provinces.

He added the decision was made after consultation with all district managers and officials of all district education departments. He said the number of all employees reached 12000.

The one-day salary of all the employees, which amounts to millions of afghanis, will be distributed to the earthquake-affected families through a special account in coordination with the Ministry of Education.

Teachers are also happy with the education department's decision, saying every Afghan needs to help the families affected by the tragedy.

Mohammad Ayub Shakir, a teacher at Haji Mirbakhsh Middle School in Dand Ghori, said every Afghan should be involved in helping earthquake-affected families. He was willing to pay two days' salary .

He told Pajhwok Afghan News: "Today I saw people in Pul-i-Khumri putting money in a box at a relief camp, I had only 20 afghanis more than the rent. I didn't have more. I am happy with the decision of the authorities and will not criticize it."

Haji Fazlur Rehman, the principal of Abdul Rahman Bin Auf School, said that God might give the authorities the ability to make right decisions so that they could work together to raise funds for the poor families.

"The decision to pay one day salary to the earthquake-affected families is the right one. Beyond this decision, we must provide more assistance so that we Afghans can help each other in such natural disasters," he told Pajhwok Afghan News.

On the other hand, under the leadership of Balkh Information and Culture Department, a financial assistance campaign has been launched in the capital and districts of the province today (Saturday) for the earthquake affected people of Paktika, Khost and Paktia provinces.

The department called on the people of Balkhi to participate in the campaign and help their countrymen.
