MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): About 1000 poor and needy families on Wednesday received food items in assistance in the Badpakh district of eastern Laghman province.
Maulvi Muhammad Inam Khalid, Badpakh district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the aid had been provided by the World Food Program (WFP).
Khalid added each family was given 50 kilograms of rice, 6.25 kilograms of pulses, 4.5 liters of cooking oil, 4.5 kilograms of baby food flour and a quantity of salt.
Abdul Taif, a resident of Gharwoch area of Badpakh district, who received the aid, told Pajhwok that the commodities were given to them at a time when prices had reached the peak.
He said he was unemployed and urged the government to provide work opportunities to people besides the aid. He added even greater assistance could not replace permanent work and employment.
In Laghman, cash and food aid have been given to needy families several times before.
