Cholera spreads in Jawzjan’s Murdyan, Aqcha districts

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The residents of Aqcha and Murdyan districts in norther Jawzjan province have complained against the spread of cholera diseas but local health officials claimed the disease was under control

Abdul Sammad the resident of Jangal Aregh village of Murdyan district said: “My 10 year old son complained against the stomachache and started vomiting, I thought he poisoned but when his condition deteriorated I took him to the hospital where I learned that a number of children elder men and women are suffering cholera.”

Khalqadad, the resident of Laghmani village in Aqcha district said: “My brother,60, got infected with cholera and I took him to the hospital.”

He said the disease was spreading and the hospital personnel were unable to control them.

“Some people took their patients to Shiberghan or Mazar-i-Sharif because there was no bed for patients,” he said.

Dr. Khales Qaderi, a surveillance department head, said measures were underway to control the disease.

He said 6,950 have been infected with cholera while 12 patients who were earlier hospitalized had died.
