KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan will import 350,000 tonnes of fuel from Iran under an agreement recently signed, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said on Saturday.

The agreement was signed in the backdrop of a massive surge in fuel prices recently. The fuel import will control the rates of petroleum products and ensure balance in the market.

One liter of petrol accounted for 91 afs, one liter of diesel 117 afs, and one kilogram of gas 76 afs.

In a statement, the MoF said the state Oil and Gas Company, the ministries of finance, foreign affairs, commerce, Da Afghanistan Bank, Norm and Standard Authority had mutually decided to purchase fuel from Iran.

A delegation comprising members of relevant authorities traveled to Iran to negotiate the purchase of fuel.

The delegation in cooperation with the Afghan embassy in Tehran held negotiations with the Iranian president's special representative, crude oil companies’ representatives and discussed the quality, rates of fuel and facilitation of trade and transit between the two nations.

In order to control fuel rates in Afghan markets, an agreement with an Iranian company was inked to import 350,000 tonnes of petroleum products which will arrive in the country soon.
