1 killed, 15 missing as floods hit Wardak, Logar, Nangarhar

MAIDAN SHAHR/ JALALABAD/ PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): One person was killed and 15 others went missing as flash floods emerged in Maidan Wardak, Logar and Nangarhar provinces, officials said on Sunday.

The floods also destroyed and badly damaged agriculture land, homes and swept away livestock.

MawlaviFaizullahJalili, MaidanWardak Natural Disaster Management Authority director, said 12 people were missing after flash floods hit Jalrez, Chak and Narkh districts.  “The flood also destroyed and damaged some homes,” he said.

Separately, in eastern Nangarhar province, one person was killed and three others injured in the flood. Tens of homes were destroyed while crops on hundreds of acres of land eradicated.

Elsewhere, floods destroyed about a thousand acres of farmland and some houses in Pul-I-Alam, Baraki Barak, Charkh, Kharwar, Khushi and Mohammad Agha districts of central Logar province.

Information and culture director Rafiullah Samim said government officials had delivered aid packages to the affected families.
