KABUL (Pajhwok): Some roads in Uruzgan, Laghman, and Kapisa provinces have been closed to traffic due to recent torrential rains and floods, according to a statement on Monday.

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) said a road in Khas Uruzgan district was blocked in Chakhaji area and the Gizab district road was blocked in Loya Dara.

That statement said the Awano and Garma bridges situated close to the provincial capital were also damaged as a result of flash floods.

(MoPW) press release, it was also stated that the Kabul-Jalalabad highway in Laghman was closed to traffic due to floods.

Floods also wreaked havoc in the Kurtaz area of Mahmud Raqi, the provincial capital, swapt-away key bridge after which the road was blocked for traffic.

Sources also said the Parwan-Bamiyan road has also been closed due to floods in Shinwaro and Siagard districts of Parwan.

According to sources, the Public Works Departments of Parwan province said efforts were on to open all closed roads for traffic and common people as soon as the situation improves.
