Flash floods: At least 15 people killed in Nuristan’s Kamdesh district

PARON (Pajhwok): Flash floods triggered by torrential rains worst hit the Kammo, Pati Gul, Baz Gul, Gordes, Saret and Chinar areas of Kamdesh district in eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Wednesday.

Disaster Management Authority Director Mawlavi Qeyamuddin Janbaz told Pajhwok Afghan News 10 bodies recovered from flood water while several homes were destroyed.

He said the Kamdesh-Bargimatal road had been closed due to floods, adding that aid providing agencies will be encouraged to deliver aid to several flood-affected families.

Meanwhile, Nuristan governor spokesman, Saifuddin Latton, told Pajhwok 15 people, including women and children, have died due to floods in Kamdesh district.

According to him, the delegation has been sent to region under the direction of governor to collect accurate numbers and provide necessary assistance to the needy families.

Abdul Rahman, a local resident, said agricultural lands and two bridges were also washed away by floods.
