KABUL (Pajhwok): Hundreds of people on Saturday staged a protest demonstration in Kabul, asking the United States to release Afghanistan’s frozen assets as soon as possible.
The protestors also urged international human rights organizations to investigate war crimes of foreign troops in Afghanistan.
The protestors chanted: “The US must soon release the $9 billion Afghan frozen assents”, “US and Britain violated human rights in Afghanistan”, “the UN must bring to justice UK troops for war crimes committed in Afghanistan.”
The protestors emphasized that the frozen assets were the right of Afghans and all of them should be handed over to Afghanistan.
Najibullah, a protestor, told Pajhwok that the US sanctions on Afghanistan had left the Afghan people in dire situation.
He asked the US to release the Afghan assets because the Afghans were facing acute poverty.
Earlier in the week, the US announced the transfer of $3.5 billion in Afghan foreign reserves to a new Swiss-based trust fund that would be shielded from the Taliban government.
