KABUL (Pajhwok): UN Security Council members have condemned in the strongest terms the deadly terrorist attack on the Kaaj Educational Centre in the Dasht-i-Barchi area of Kabul.
Friday’s bombing, the latest in a string of recent attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure across Afghanistan, left at least 19 dead and dozens injured – many of them students.
In a statement, the UNSC members voiced their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims. They wished a speedy and full recovery to the injured.
They reaffirmed the right to education for all Afghans and its contribution to the achievement of peace and security.
They expressed grave concern about the significant implications of attacks against schools on the safety of students and their ability to enjoy their right to education.
Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constituted one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, the UNSC members said.
They underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of the reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.
All states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, were urged to cooperate actively with relevant authorities in this regard.
All states needed to combat by all means, in accordance with the UN Charter and other obligations, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts, they stressed.
