JALALABAD (Pajhwok): About 588 families have been provided with chickens and their feed to help them fight poverty in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province.
Each family was given 30 chickens and other necessary items by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
Maulvi Abdul Satar Mohammad, director of agriculture, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 588 families were distributed chickens in order to earn a living.
He said the program would be extended to other districts as well and each family would be able to earn a living at home.
Lajbar, a resident of Sherzad district whose only source of income is farming, said that raising chickens for eggs and meat would resolve his financial problems to some extent.
