MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): A dozen schools ruined by the past conflict in eastern Laghman province have been repaired at a cost of 13 million afghanis, an official said on Wednesday.

The schools — 11 in Alingar and one in Alishing districts — took three months to be repaired by the International Committee of the Red Cross, said Shahwali Naqshbandi, spokesperson for the provincial Department of Education.

Amir Mirwais Niazi of Alingar district Sheikh Mohammad Hussain Boys’ High School, told Pajhwok that many other school buildings in the province also needed to be repaired.

He said the reconstructed schools had been damaged during the previous wars.

It is to be noted that the warring parties used schools and other public facilities as their bastions.
