KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) says more than 473,000 metric tons of commercial goods were imported to the country and over 7,000 metric tons of goods exported to other countries by trains during the past one month.

A statement the ARA shared with media outlets said during the previous month of (Qaws), a total of 481,218 metric tons of commercial goods were imported and exported through the railroads of Afghanistan.

The statement said 350,449 metric tons of goods were imported through Hairatan railroad, 17,985 metric tons through Aqina and 105,310 metric tons via Torghundi track, with the total imports reaching 473,744 metric tons.

During the same month, a total of 7,474 metric tons of commercial goods were exported to foreign countries through the routes.

ARA spokesperson Abdul Sami Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News wheat, flour, cereals, fuel, liquefied gas, oil and some were items imported to the country from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia and China.

While talc and dried fruit (like raisin, almonds, pistachio, pine nuts and dried apricots) were exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Durrani said.

The ARA official said they were trying to provide more facilities to businessmen in transportation of their commercial goods.

The ARA has previously said it recorded a 22 percent increase in transportation of goods and income of the authority during the past six months.

According to ARA information, during the previous month of (Qaws) 499,989 metric tons of goods were imported and 2,050 metric tons exported to foreign countries.
