KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Education has ordered the reopening of girls seminaries and primary schools closed by local officials, asking female teachers to continue their job by observing hijab.
The new academic year started on March 23, 2022 and the same day the acting government of Afghanistan suspended girls’ secondary and high education and said a plan was being worked on in this regard.
The government promised to reopen girls high and secondary schools after completion of the plan, something yet to happen.
Pajhwok Afghan News has received a copy of a letter issued by the Education Ministry to the Education Directorate. It reads: “Girls schools above grade six are suspended until further notice, but in some provinces local seminaries and primary schools of girls (from grade one to grade six) are also closed by local officials. Therefore you are directed to that following the issuance of this letter, girls’ schools have the permission to completely operate and girls up to grade six can attend schools and training classes”.
However, the letter did not say where such schools have been closed.
It said primary schools being run by aid giving organizations and have permits from the Ministry of Education can be attended by students and the teachers can attend their job by observing hijab.
The letter also said if local officials resisted, the issue should be formally shared with related officials of the Education Ministry.
Abdul Wahid Ryan, head of Bakhtar news agency, told Pajhwok the letter was authentic and had been issued by the Education Ministry.
