KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says humanitarian needs have surged from 6.3 million people in 2019 to 28.3 million people in 2023.
On its Facebook page, the UN mission wrote that humanitarian assistance needs were rapidly increasing in Afghanistan.
UNAMA said: “Humanitarian needs have spiked exponentially from 6.3M people in 2019 to 28.3M people in 2023.”
It estimated some six million Afghans faced emergency levels of food insecurity — a step away from famine.
According to UNAMA, this is one of the world’s highest figures in absolute terms.
