Woman commits suicide by consuming poison in Faryab

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A 22-year-old woman committed suicide and a three-year-old child died after drowning in a pond in northern Faryab province officials said on Thursday.

Maulavi Shmsullah Mohammadi, the provincial Information and Culture director, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a woman named Gulshan allegedly committed suicide by consuming rat poison in Qurchi area of Balcharagh district on Wednesday afternoon.

Mohammadi said the woman finished her life as a result of domestic violence.

Qari Hanzala, an influential figure in the district, said: “Gulshan was 22 years old, she was married and a mother of a son, she ate rat poison after a verbal clash with her brother”.

Gulshan committed suicide three months after her husband, who was a drug addict, killed himself by hanging, Hanzala added.

In Qaisar district, a three-year-old child named Murtaza drowned in a pond and died.

Five days ago, another woman committed suicide by drinking acid in Qaisar district.
