KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed two Indians as physiotherapist and strength and conditioning trainer to its High-Performance Centre.

The board announced the appointment of former top-order Indian batter Mandeep Singh as physiotherapist and spinner Rajesh Chauhan as strength trainer.

In a statement on its website, ACB hoped the new appointments would help it develop significant player development programmes for its centrally and domestic contracted cricketers.

The appointments are designed to obviate the need for taking players abroad for injury treatment. The move is expected to save money and control spending.

Singh, holding a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from India’s CMJ University, has worked in biomechanics, exercise therapy, electric therapy, orthopedics and ergonomics for more than 13 years.

Chauhan, having a Bachelor’s degree in Strength and Conditioning from Setanta College in Ireland, has received multiple certificates and licences from various organisations, including Level 1 & Level 2 Licenses from the Australian Strength & Conditioning Association (ASCA).

He has earned a Level 3 Licence (Reps Level 3), a Level O Training Certificate from BCCI, a Personal Trainer Certificate from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and a Personal Trainer Certificate from the National Academy.

Currently serving as head strength and conditioning coach at the Malaysia Cricket Association, he also has experience as player management coach with the Singapore Cricket Association.

Additionally, he has worked with the Kerala Cricket Association, India Blue, Rajasthan Royals, Cricket Association of Nepal and Zimbabwe Cricket.
