SHARANA (Pajhwok): Three drinking water networks will be built at a cost of nine million afghanis for the survivors of earthquake in Giyan district of southeastern Paktika province.

MaulaviMatiullahMansor, provincial Disaster Management Authority head, said the Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) would finance the three water schemes in Giyan district.

These networks will be built in Maima, Rija and Kamal Kali villages during the course of two months and will provide 600,000 residents with clean water, Mansor said.

Mujib, a resident of Giyan district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the people of Giyan district had been facing water shortages after the occurrence of earthquakes.

He said: “We are happy that we will have clean drinking water in our houses and we will get rid of many diseases as well”.

It is worth mentioning that the IRW had announced 40 million afs in cash assistance for 147 earthquake-hit families for reconstruction of their houses, but so far  only 13 million afs of the aid has been provided.
