FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of the Khash district of northeastern Badakhshan province have suffered cattle losses due to heavy rains and windstorms.
Agriculture and Livestock Director Qari Qutbuddin Dehnawi told Pajhwok Afghan News the hail happened two days ago in Shahran village of Yaylaq Valley.
As a result of the windstorms and rains, 100 sheep and 30 cows were killed, Dehnawi said.
Khash resident Abdul Bashir, 35, said a shepherd was also wounded in addition to the killing of cattle heads. “We managed to slaughter 30 of the animals while 100 died,” Bashir added.
Bai Mohammad, another farmer, lamented he had lost all his cattle heads. “I have no option but to seek assistance from welfare institutions in returning to normal life” he commented.
He said the climate of Khash district was cold and unfavourable for agriculture, forcing residents to keep animals for livelihoods.
