QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A group of ophthalmologists has arrived in western Badghis province to offer free treatment to patients with eye illnesses
Doctor Mohammad Yousuf Osman, a member of the group and a specialist of eye illnesses, told Pajhwok Afghan News the ophthalmologists arrived in Badghis yesterday and were scheduled to provide free services for eye patients in the provincial hospital in Qala-i-Naw city for 15 days.
Osman said: “We arrived here with financial assistance of Turkey and in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and we will examine about two hundred outpatients every day, and at least about 25 other people will undergo eye surgeries”.
He added, if needed, they might return to the province after six months or a year to provide the same services.
Local residents welcomed the arrival of the doctors.
Parwana, who visited the hospital, said: “I am happy about this and I praise this action because there is no ophthalmologist in this hospital.”
Parwana, who brought her elderly mother to see one of the doctors for her eye illness, expressed hope that many people like her mother will be treated.
Ghulam Rasol, who has come to see one of these specialists, also welcomed the arrival of the ophthalmologists.
He said: “Two years have elapsed since I cannot see well and I have no money to go to another province for treatment. I am very happy because of the chance for free operation of my eye”.
Both the patients wished eye department will be activated in Badghis provincial hospital.
