KABUL (Pajhwok): Nine people have been arrested in a joint operation from Germany and Netherlands over planning alleged terrorist attacks in Germany, according to a media report on Friday.
A joint anti-terrorist operation by German, Dutch and Belgian police on Thursday, July 6, led to the arrest of a number of members of an Islamist group, a report in lemonde. fr said.
Seven people aged between 20 and 45 from Central Asia – one Turkmen national, one Kyrgyz and five Tajiks – were arrested in Germany and two in the Netherlands, a Tajik man and his Kyrgyz wife.
The Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office did not say whether any arrests had been made after three raids in Liège and Verviers, in the east of the country.
According to the Karlsruhe prosecutor's office, the North Rhine-Westphalia-based group was planning "high-profile" actions in Germany, and had acquired weapons, but had not yet drawn up any concrete plans.
The seven suspects had arrived in the country from Ukraine shortly after the start of the Russian offensive in February 2022.
According to the authorities, they were collecting funds for Islamist networks abroad, and were in contact with members of the Islamic State in Khorasan (IS-K), the regional branch that is particularly active in Afghanistan.
