Media not portraying Afghanistan’s true image: FM

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s image is more positive than how it is painted by media, Foreign Minister Maulavi Amir Khan Muttaqi told members of Austria’s Freedom Party.

Muttaqi met members of the Freedom Party of Austria in Kabul, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a press release on September 24.

While welcoming the guests, Muttaqi said: “It is my pleasure that you are closely watching the real image of this country. You will understand the reality that Afghanistan’s image is more positive than how it is shown by the media.”

Besides shining a light on a number of issues, Muttaqi also acknowledged consular services and other facilities provided to Afghan nationals in Vienna, the capital of Austria.

The members of Freedom Party of Austria agreed the current situation in the country was a lot different from what they had heard about Afghanistan.

They said: “We walked freely in the capital Kabul and talked to people. From conversation with the locals, it appears the Afghans are happy with the current situation in their country and they feel more secure.”

Johannes, a member of Freedom Party, said: “I regret that the central government, which has ensure security throughout the country and put an end to four decades of unrest, is yet to be recognised.”

The delegates promised painting the true picture of Afghanistan to Europe, and sharing it with fellow officials, the European Union and other countries, the statement concluded.
