FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A newly-built health center that cost $350,000 has been inaugurated in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Monday.

Public health director Qari Atiqullah Faizi told Pajhwok Afghan News the health clinic was built for Pamir residents and it was formally opened yesterday (Sunday).

He said China paid 81 percent of the cost and the Agha Khan Foundation paid the remaining 19 percent. The clinic would resolve health related problems of the Pamir residents.

He said special attention was paid to remote Badakhshan people, especially the Pamirat residents, Wakhan district. He said work was ongoing on the road that connects Afghanistan to China and will be completed near future.

A representative of the Pamir tribe, Haji Bhutto expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the attention, efforts of the IEA and said no government had paid such attention to them.
