KABUL (Pajhwok): An Iodized salt processing factory has been inaugurated in the Chahar Asyab district of Kabul province at five million dollar investment, according to the factory owner on Tuesday.

Factory Owner Aman Sherinzad during the inauguration ceremony said that he was doing this business in Pakistan for the past 40 years but after the takeover of the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ (IEA) he shifted his business to Afghanistan on the invitation of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment.

He said he invested five million dollars in the factory and around 180 people will be provided with work opportunity.

Sherinzad said enough electricity was provided to the factory and it has the capacity to produce 800 tonnes of iodized salt in 24 hours.

He said one of his factory branches is available in Ghazni province and in the future he planned to open another branch in Nangarhar province as well.

Younis Momand, acting head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), said inauguration of such factories could help strengthen the economy of the country.

He asked the responsible individuals in the factory to pay serious attention to the quality of salt.

He said Afghanistan’s goods worth 1.5 million afs are illegally stopped and urged international assistance in this regard.

He said Afghanistan wanted trade and business ties with all the countries based on mutual respect.

Khan Jan Alkozai, deputy head of the ACCI, asked the Ministry of Commerce and Industries to pay attention to the investment sector in the country.

He said around 400 containers of Afghan businessmen full of goods are stopped at Karachi Port. He warned some goods my rotten and urged the international community support in this regard.

He said Pakistan exported its goods and services to the Central Asian countries and so far Afghanistan created no issue for them.

Alkozai urged Pakistan not to create hurdle in the way of Afghan businessmen.
