Supporting returnees government, public responsibility: Governor

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Local officials in northern Takhar province considered support to returnees from Pakistan government and public responsibility and asked businessmen and well-off individuals to provide financial support to repatriates.

Takhar Governor Maulvi Obaidullah Aminzada while addressing a meeting amid at attracting assistance for repatriated people blamed the government of Pakistan for forcible eviction of Afghan refugees.

He said such eviction of refugees is against all the values of national and international obligations. Now the returnees are considered as the honour and dignity of this country, we all must help them, he added.

Aminzada said: “Support and assistance to these repatriates is our religious obligation, government and the nation stand by returnees and we created supporting committees to help the returnees and ask people especially rich people to provide the repatriates all types of support.”

He emphasized the provincial government stood by returnees that came from Pakistan and fully support them.

Qari Sher Mohammad, head of Refugees and Repatriates Department said during this meeting, so far 1,200 families returned from Pakistan and they got resettled in Darqad, Dash-i-Qala, Khuaja Ghar and Khuaja Bahauddin district, efforts are underway to provide the returnees more support.

Some of the traders and rich people also announced to support the returnees, they urged the traders and businessmen to repatriates.

Haji Hafiz, one of the businessmen, said he will provide all possible support to refugees and will serve all his energy in this ways.

He said the winter season is approaching and called for serious measures must be taken to support the returnees.

The government of Pakistan announced a deadline for the refugees to leave that country or they will be evicted by forces. According to the official figures of the government, so far 50,000 families returned to the country via Torkham crossing from Pakistan.
