Woman killed, 5 held as Nuristan families clash

PARON (Pajhwok): A woman has been killed in a clash between two families in the Kantiva district of eastern Nuristan province, local officials said on Saturday.

Five persons have been detained by security personnel on suspicion of killing the woman, authorities said.

Provincial police spokesman Qari Mujibur Rahman Abul Yaman told Pajhwok Afghan News a dispute between the families triggered the armed clash in the Bagro Pati area of the district.

Both sides used light arms against each other after a verbal dispute. The woman was killed as a result, the police official said.

The suspected killer and four others, who fled the scene of the fight, were later arrested by police in Staff area, he added.

According to Abul Yaman, the detainees were under interrogations. They will be referred soon to judicial organs.

In the remote astern province, such incidents occur usually.
