Cyprus gives Afghanistan 98,000 euros in humanitarian aid

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations says Cyprus has contributed <b>€</b>98,000 to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF).

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) wrote on its X handle on Wednesday: “Cyprus has pledged 98,468 euros in aid to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.”

This assistance would be distributed to the people in need of urgent humanitarian support, OCHA added.

According to information from OCHA, Cyprus has contributed over 177,000 euros to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund since 2021.

The aid from Cyprus comes at a time when the number of the people of Afghanistan needing humanitarian assistance has risen to 28.8 million.

With the advent of winter, different organisations and countries have stepped up humanitarian aid for Afghanistan.

Japan allocated an aid package of $58.4 million while the European Union (EU) has pledged 25 million euros.
