Bid to smuggle precious stones to Pakistan foiled

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Customs officials at Torkham crossing in eastern Nangarhar province have foiled an attempt to smuggle precious and semiprecious stones to Pakistan, an official said on Sunday.

Sediqullah Qureshi, deputy head of information and culture, told Pajhwok Afghan News the stones had been stuffed in 38 bags in a commercial vehicle.

He said that Torkham customs management officials prevented the smuggling of 38 bags of precious and semi-precious stones to Pakistan.

He added the recovered stones were very skillfully placed in a truck and were being smuggled to Pakistan.

He did not say if anyone was arrested, but assured that efforts to prevent the smuggling of historic artifacts, precious, semi-precious stones and other goods to Pakistan would be accelerated and no one would be allowed to commit such crime.

Few days ago, a bid to smuggle gold to Pakistan was foiled at Torkham crossing.
