Khas Uruzgan residents meet governor, demand basic services

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Residents of Khas Uruzgan district of central Uruzgan province have met the provincial governor to demand reconstruction of the road leading to the provincial capital.

A number of residents, religious scholars and tribal elders held a meeting with the provincial governor.

Mohammad Wali, a religious scholar, said the residents of Khas Uruzgan district had been deprived of basic services since decades and the road connecting the district with the provincial capital, Tirinkot, was in a dilapidated condition and caused trouble for the residents in winter season.

Haji Fazal Rahim, a tribal elder of the district, said in addition to other problems, residents of the district were also deprived of telecommunication services.

He added: “Only a few telecommunication antennas are installed in the district center which cannot cover the entire district.” He asked the government to pay special attention to the district.

Uruzgan governor Maulvi Ali Ahmad Jan said he had sometimes ago visited the district to closely see the problems of the people. He said they were trying to address all the problems.

He added they had shared problems like clean drinking water, new schools and installing new telecom antennas and reconstruction of the district road with the central government.

Khas Uruzgan district is located about 90km northeast of Tirinkot and its residents are deprived of many basic services.
