KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) has predicted relatively heavy rains, flash floods and rising water levels in rivers for the next two days and asked residents to go to safe areas.
On its X handle, the MoEW wrote that there was possibility of relatively heavy rain with flash floods and rising water levels in some areas of the country’s rivers on Saturday and Sunday (Jan 27-28)
The ministry said based on predictions, heavy rainfall and flooding was expected in the northern part of the country, Harirud, Helmand and Kabul rivers.
According to the ministry, the forecast is based on the hydro-metrological stations analysis on rainfall, snow, climate negative impact, foreign metrological institutions and the Meteorological Department of the country.
Based on the information, the surging water levels was expected in the rivers and riverine areas of Kushk-wa-Kashan, Herat, Farah, Kashrod, Helmand, Arghandab, Trang, Ghazni, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Logar, Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Ghorband, Panjsher, Laghman, Kunar, Nuristan, Faryab, Jawzjan, Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Takhar and Badakhshan.
The ministry asked residents of the certain areas to refrain from approaching rivers and to inform residents of downstream areas when floods occur or the water level rises in order to prevent human casualties.
