Afghanistan opt to bowl against Sri Lanka in ODI series opener

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan and Sri Lank are playing first of their three-match One Day International (ODI) series at Pallekele today (Friday).

On a bright and sunny day, Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and elected to field against the hosts.

Shahidi said the four seamers in their side, and the possibility of dew later, were the primary reason behind their decision, according to ESPNcricinfo.

Afghanistan will be confident going into the game after its convincing seven-wicket win against Sri Lanka in a match in last year's World Cup tournament in India.

Afghanistan:

Hashmatullah Shahidi (captain), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Ikram Alikhil, Azmatullah Omarzai, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad.

Sri Lanka:

Kusal Mendis (captain), Avishka Fernando, Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Pramod Madushan, Dilshan Madushanka.
