MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): The private sector established about 100 commercial poultry production farms during the past one year in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Wednesday.
Dr. Jawadullah Alizada, an official of the provincial Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News 100 chicken production farms were established in Alishang, Alingar and Dawlatabad districts and Mehtherlam, the provincial capital.
He said 40 million afghanis were invested in these farms and about 400 people provided with employment.
At the same time, owners of these farms are happy to have started producing chicken meat, but they are complaining about plunging sales.
Dr. Mohammad Aman, head chicken farms association, told Pajhwok: "The production of meat in these farms has been increasing day by day, we need government’s cooperation in chicken feed and market."
Mullah Jan, owner of a farm in the provincial capital, said he owned two chicken farms.
He said he presented about 2,000 chickens to the market once in two months, but chickens imported from Pakistan had affected their business.
According the Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock department, there are about 183 chicken production farms in the province and they offer hundreds chickens to the market every day.
