KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Maulvi Abdul Kabir has said it was ‘unfair’ not to accept the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA)’s reasonable demands for participation in the Doha meeting.

The two-day UN-convened meeting in Doha brought together special envoys for Afghanistan on February 18-19, but the IEA didn’t attend because their demands had not been met.

Maulvi Kabit met members of youth councils from 14 districts of Kabul and police districts of the city.

The deputy PM said IEA adhered to a balanced policy in its relations with the world and had many achievements in foreign policy.

He added not considering reasonable demands of the IEA to participate in the Doha meeting was unfair, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

According to him, almost 900 personalities have returned to the country through the Afghan Personality Relations Commission, and in the near future more prominent and important figures would come back to the country.

He also said the IEA and the youth belonged to each other and special attention would be paid to address the problems of the young generation.

The youth spoke about problems them faced and said the IEA should stop young people from going abroad due to unemployment and should provide them with work opportunities within the country.

UN secretary general Antonio Guterres told a press conference after the Doha meeting that the caretaker government of Afghanistan had set a number of conditions for participating in the meeting, which, according to him, the UN did not accept.

Guterres said not appointing a special representative for Afghanistan, participating in the meeting as an official party and a representative of Afghanistan were the conditions of the IEA.
