NEILI (Pajhwok): Radio Nasim has resumed its broadcasts after a five-month hiatus in central Daikundi province.
Director of Information and Culture Sayed Mustafa Saleh said during the reopening ceremony Radio Nasim had resumed its activities based on a decision of the Ministry of Information and Culture and local officials.
He said the radio had been closed about five months ago by this department over violating laws of the Islamic Emirate.
Sultan Ali Javedi, former manager of the radio station, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the provincial court, due to what the local administration called a media law violation.
On the other hand, the Afghanistan Journalists Centre welcomed the resumption of Radio Nasim activity and called for the immediate released of Javedi.
Salehi said the imprisonment of Javedi was based on a court verdict and the information and culture department was unable to secure his release.
Hailing the reopening of the radio station broadcasts, the Afghan Journalists Centre asked local authorities to respect the freedom of media in accordance with the relevant law and release Javedi unconditionally as soon as possible.
