FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): A campaign to collect drug addicts has been launched in western Farah province, an official said on Sunday.
Maulvi Mohammad Naseem, an official in the police headquarters, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drive to collect drug addicts once again kicked off today morning in Farah city and districts of the province.
He said about 100 to 150 drug addicts were rounded up on the first day of the drive.
He added a special rehabilitation center has been established for the treatment of these people and they would be kept there until their health condition improves.
Meanwhile, police spokesman Maulvi Mohammad Naseem Badri told Pajhwok the campaign will continue until all drug addicts were rounded up from the provincial capital and districts.
On the other hand, residents hailed the government’s move.
Gul Ahmad, a resident of Farah city, told Pajhwok rounding up drug addicts and providing them with treatment was appreciable.
He emphasized that these addicts should be kept in the rehabilitation center until they were fully recovered.
Ibrahim, a drug addict in the provincial capital, said that he has been using drugs for the past ten years.
He promised if this time he underwent treatment, he would never consume drugs.
The Islamic Emirate has started efforts to collect and treat drug addicts and has so far collected thousands of addicts in various parts of the country, especially Kabul, for treatment.
